Minecraft Meet the Mobs at Alton Towers: Our Honest Review

AD | Maisie and I had the best time meeting the Mobs at Alton Towers Resort last week, and I’ve smiled so much just putting these photos together. We were invited along by the team at Alton Towers (thank you!), but as always, everything below is our own honest take.

What is Minecraft Meet the Mobs?

Minecraft Meet the Mobs is a brand new event running across the summer at Alton Towers, and it’s the UK’s first official Minecraft experience of its kind. It’s included in your normal ticket price, so there’s nothing extra to book or pay for once you’re in the park.

Six Minecraft-inspired scenes are dotted around the resort, each home to one of the newly created baby Mobs. You can meet costume characters too, including the Iron Golem, Chicken Jockey and Creeper, alongside puppets like axolotls, baby pandas, pigs, goats, chicks and wolf pups.

The Baby Mob Trail

We were given a stamp card by one of the playmakers, and the challenge is simple: find all 6 baby Mob scenes around the park, get your card stamped at each one, then head back to the hub to claim your prize. Complete it and you unlock an exclusive downloadable Minecraft reward, the Baby Axolotl Hat, a wearable cosmetic that’s only available in the game through this event, you genuinely can’t get it anywhere else in the UK.

Maisie and I love a treasure hunt, so this was completely up our street. Following the arrows around the park kept her motivated to keep walking in the heat too, which as any parent knows is half the battle on a hot day out.

Meeting the Mobs

Getting up close with the life-sized characters was a real highlight. The playmakers took so much time with every child, standing for photos, answering questions, and just generally making it fun, not an easy job to do in the heat, so a huge well done to all of them.

They also ran energetic games with the kids throughout the day. Their enthusiasm was honestly infectious, I had so much FOMO watching I nearly joined in myself.

If your child wants to go the extra mile, there’s Minecraft-themed face painting available too, at £12 you can choose from Axolotl, Enderman, Bee or Creeper designs.

The Food (This Deserves Its Own Section)

The TNT Popcorn stand ended up being one of Maisie’s actual highlights of the day. There’s a proper menu of themed flavours, Suspicious Snack (salted), Piglin Gold Crunch, Baby Mob Mega Munch, and Creeper Kaboom. Maisie went for the Baby Mob Mega Munch, loaded with chocolate sauce, M&Ms, popping candy and hundreds and thousands. We might have had a sugar crash not long after, entirely worth it.

Our Top Tips for Visiting Minecraft Meet the Mobs

• The trail is a genuinely good way to keep kids (and let’s be honest, adults) motivated to walk around the whole park on a hot day
• Budget a bit of time for the meet and greet queues, the characters take their time with every child, which is lovely but does mean a wait
• If you want face painting, factor in the extra £12 and a bit of queue time for that too
• Save the TNT Popcorn for partway through the day rather than first thing, trust us on the sugar crash timing

Our Verdict

We had such a lush day. Minecraft Meet the Mobs is a brilliant addition to Alton Towers for the summer, and it costs nothing extra on top of your normal ticket. If you’ve got a Minecraft fan in your life, I’d absolutely recommend it. Honestly, even if you don’t, we’d still recommend it, it’s just a genuinely fun day out.
